Nerd Night: Exploring the Nautical Archive
Bill is joined by (former captain) Leslie Alteri for this month's deep dive (no pun intended!) into the world of nautical ephemera and stories.
Time & Location
Mar 25, 2026, 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Theatre of Memory Museum, 1705 NW 6th St, Gainesville, FL 32609, USA
About the event
In the Old Testament, the 107th Psalm speaks wonderingly of those who go “Down to the sea in ships.” The oceans are worlds seen as holding majesty and mystery for ages, and humans have been drawn to sea since before recorded history. For many centuries there’s been paperwork involved, and though water and dampness are enemies to paper, there is enough remaining ephemera in the Theatre of Memory Nautical Archive alone to tell quite a story. Illustrated here, God and the Captain are responsible for 400 pounds of olive oil. We are so fortunate to be joined by (former captain) Leslie Alteri, skipper of cargo vessels in years gone by. I know documents, but she knows the sea. Please join us. RSVP under EVENTS at theatreofmemory.org and we’ll save you a seat at the table.
